Opposition Leader: Kerry’s Remarks Show End of Washington’s Syria Regime Change Policy

TEHRAN (FNA)- A Syrian opposition leader said the recent statements of US Secretary of State John Kerry on Syria displayed very openly that Washington has withdrawn from its regime change policy in Syria.

“The US is now trying to adopt new policies on Syria and Kerry’s recent statements show Washington’s open withdrawal from its regime change policy in Syria,” Secretary General of the Syrian Democratic Party Ahmed Mustafa El Koussa told FNA on Wednesday.

The Syrian politician warned his colleagues and other opposition members that the US is trying to use the Syrian opposition forces as a tool to achieve its goals in the Arab country.

He pointed to the US-led anti-ISIL coalition, and said that the US and its allies are not serious in their fight against the Takfiri terrorists.

Last week, President Assad said that the US-led international coalition against the ISIL terrorist group has failed, and lacks impact on the ground.

In fact, since this coalition started to operate, ISIS  has been expanding. In other words, the coalition has failed and has no real impact on the ground,” Assad said in an interview with Russian media.

According to the president, the United States refuses to acknowledge the fact that Syria’s government-led army is the only force in the country capable of battling the extremist group on the ground.

Assad also added that the coalition could eradicate ISIL Takfiri militants if it wanted to do so.

The coalition has been allegedly launching airstrikes against ISIL positions in Syria without approval of Damascus.
