Russia says its warplanes flew 15 sorties over Syria on October 5, targeting 10 Islamic State (IS) targets.

The Defense Ministry said three IS artillery positions in Homs Province were destroyed in one group of air strikes.

Meanwhile, Russia spoke out against any move to create a no-fly zone in northern Syria, with Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov saying, “it is necessary to respect countries’ sovereignty.”

Russia says it has been targeting the IS group and other Islamist positions since September 30, but the West and the Syrian opposition say government opponents are targeted. Moscow denies the accusations.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said on October 5 that there was no indication that Russia has changed its strategy on efforts to concentrate its military efforts in Syria on fighting the IS militants.
